QR code help
Do QR codes expire?
A static QR code never expires, because it holds its content inside the image. A dynamic code is a short link, so it works only as long as the service and its owner keep that link active. Always ask any provider what happens to printed codes if you stop paying.
Common causes
- Static codes cannot expire, but the page they point to can disappear.
- Dynamic codes depend on the provider keeping the link active.
- Some providers switch dynamic codes off when a trial or plan ends.
How to fix it
- Decide whether the content will ever change. If not, a static code is enough.
- If it may change, use a managed code, and note who owns the workspace.
- Read the provider's policy on what happens when a plan ends.
- Luvox: existing active managed links continue to resolve when a paid term ends, and the workspace returns to the free allowance.
How to prevent it
Keep the destination alive and put a written short address next to printed codes.
Frequently asked questions
Can a static code stop working?
The image will not, but the destination can go offline, and fading or damage can stop scans.
Who owns a dynamic code?
The workspace that created it, so keep ownership clear when agencies hand work to clients.
