QR code help

Why does my QR code stop scanning when I add a logo?

A logo hides squares the scanner needs. QR codes can recover from some missing area, but a large or detailed logo, or one that overlaps the three corner squares, breaks the read. Keep the logo small and centred, use stronger error correction, and test.

Common causes

How to fix it

  1. Shrink the logo and keep it in the centre.
  2. Never cover the three large corner squares.
  3. Use a higher error-correction level when a logo is present, and expect a denser code.
  4. Print larger to compensate.
  5. Test the printed proof on several phones.

How to prevent it

If scanning must be certain, put the logo beside the code instead of inside it.

Frequently asked questions

How big can a logo be?

There is no fixed percentage. It depends on the error-correction level and the pattern, so test the actual code.

Does a logo make a code less reliable?

It can. Plain codes are the most reliable.
